Biography

Swedish progressive Metal band CASTILLION was formed in 2002 by Ulf Sörman, Robert Örnesved, Johannes Berg and Magnus Stenberg. The band has recorded one three-track demo and one full-length demo album prior to today. The third CD “Pieces Of A Shattered Me” (2011) takes CASTILLION in a slightly new direction, with heavier and progressive elements added to their melodic Power Metal. It was recorded at Studio Seven in Örebro by Ronny Milianowicz (SAINT DEAMON, ex-SINERGY, ex-DIONYSUS) and Andreas "Toya" Johansson (SAINT DEAMON), mixed by Ronny Milianowicz and mastered by Jens Bogren (KATATONIA, HAMMERFALL, PAIN OF SALVATION, OPETH). CASTILLION is currently without label, but will have a digital release this fall.

The bio mentions progressive Metal as CASTILLION's music tag but I was more than happy to discover that there is more in "Pieces Of A Shattered Me". First of all and probably most importantly the album flows smooth without over-complicated song structures that usually equal to death through sheer boredom. There are many melodic layers that spice things up and in some extent make the songs easy to remember. Ulf Sörman has an impressive singing range delivering the vocals with power and melody bringing CASTILLION over Power Metal territories. The sound production of the band's third full length is top notch despite the fact it was self-released and proves that these guys worked their arses off so they did not want a lousy sound quality. If I have to mention one influence for this band I'd go with BRAINSTORM even if the Progressive character is all around. Listening to this album I couldn't help but wonder: how the hell this band is without a record deal?
