Biography

ATROPOS is a Polish band formed in 1994 in Warsaw and obtained a solid lineup in 1996. The end of the same year they released the first two-track demo tape. The next year ATROPOS released the debut full length album “Silent Touch” delivering nine tracks of darkened Death/Doom Metal with guest female vocals, keyboards and numerous cinematic acoustic parts. After playing in concerts for two year the band entered the studio to record “Triafata” taking a different music direction towards blackened Death Metal. The album was self-released in 2000 and was re-released one year later via Apocalypse Productions. After parting ways with female drummer Atre and while searching for a replacement ATROPOS started working on new material. The “Crucifiction” EP saw the light of the day as self-release in 2005 and the third full length album “Reconquista” was set to be released in 2011. Currently the band is working on new songs for an upcoming EP and LP.

Whoever is into Black/Death Metal and is not familiar to the Polish Metal scene should return to school and do his homework all over again. I don't know the reasons why but really I cannot think of a Polish band that failed to deliver that sollid blackened Death Metal the majority of the metalheads know from VADER and BEHEMOTH. But there are many undiscovered gem in Poland and let me tell you that ATROPOS is one of them. This four-track EP contains three originals and one cover song and are more than enough to showcase the band's granite solid sound and absolute heaviness. The Death Metal rhythm section with fast riffs and occasional fast drum breaks blends with the early ROTTING CHRIST guitar work building a evil atmosphere pointing to the roots of Black Metal. The cover song is an awesome version of VADER's "Carnal" where the minimal keyboards and FX sounds give a personal touch to otherwise bone-crushing two minutes blackened Death Metal assault. Do I have to say more? I guess no, but everyone who likes this sound should check this band immediately since the Polish Death Metal scene looks like an undiscovered territory to me.
