Riot - Restless Breed

We often use the expression “love of a lifetime” so my bond with RIOT can be easily considered like one, but I prefer to re-phrase it into “inspiration of a lifetime”. They have been an inspiration not for only me, but for millions Metal fans and musicians around the globe. And especially from the recently deceased Mark Reale and his magical guitar riffs and solos.

Free - Heartbreaker

Minor-chords sentimental songs and heartbreakin’ ballads have their own origin in Hard Rock and Heavy Metal music. And while everyone’s mind can travel to America with its mellow AOR and Pop/Rock approach in the 70s and early 80s, yet England has its own share in the making of cryin’-out-loud love themes and a generally emotionally involved relevant scheme. And if you try to come up with obvious classic British singers like e.g. David Coverdale or John Waite then you should travel a little bit more back in time and discover the band that groovy soulful Rock music owes a lot.

Nocturnus - The Key

When a Metal subgenre builds a base of patterns and musical ideals that define and explain it, then you can say it’s rightfully called a ‘genre’. And then comes a band or two or more that pour in a new prospect while also using the aforementioned roots and you end up wondering if the genre can tolerate new (or sometimes called ‘alien’) ideas or if these new bands can be labeled as charge d'affaires of the genre. Quite complex, huh?

Razor - Executioner’s Song

It’s quite a surprise why the hell this Canadian monster never enjoyed commercial success in the Speed/Thrash circuit since its vice and aggression had no equals in their (at least) early discography. Ontario’s villains RAZOR started early enough in the 80s and delivered much more than just forceful music to the masses. Now, years and years later the only thing someone would have to remember from this unique outfit should be their only ‘hit’ song called "Evil Invaders" that still plays in Metal clubs when it’s time to thrash the arena.
