It's so sad to see a quite empty venue when two high quality bands like these hit the stage. I don't understand why people are reluctant to go out to see bands playing originals. Apparently cover and tribute bands draw quite a crowd at the same place. For sure, it was a hectic concert schedule around that time but that shouldn't really stop people from showing up.

Anyway, modern Metal band ZEPHYRA started off in a fine way. I really liked Åsa Netterbrant's vocals style. She manages everything from the harshest growls to some quite neat melodies. She could also carry the front-line of the band in a very good way. And it is also very cool when a band does something special, the simple black stripes all had over their faces sure did the trick and made it all more memorable. Musically a few songs got stuck as well, “My Gift, My Curse” was one of them, the balance between growl and clean vocals did the song good and built up the dynamics in it. Also “Only One” stood out. It was the phrasing in the vocal line this time too and even if the style of ZEPHYRA's music is far from it, the way of structuring the vocals had great resemblances with CRIMSON GLORY. The end part of the song, when it was only clean vocals sounded absolutely fantastic. “Fånge I Frihet” stood out because it was sung in Swedish, but to get the flow in the language and not make it sound Punk or parody is rather tricky. But this too ZEPHYRA did really well.

Last song of the set as well as latest release from the band “The Darkest Black” was another good one. Even if this isn't really what I normally listen to I liked ZEPHYRA, they have more structure and more fines compared to most band in the genre so this was a good encounter.

EGONAUT's “The Omega” struck me hard when it was released and actually it is quite rare this to happen with friends' bands. But it did and I still really enjoy listening to it, it just gets better and better. Which made this a great show since virtually the whole set was from that album. Opening “Initium”, both for the set and on record is a powerful piece and EGONAUT sure managed to recreate the groove from the record this night. Also the power in the vocal line for those first lines was really massive. And EGONAUT look super-cool on stage, it's esthetic and clean but still very dramatic and tough. The downside though is that it was impossible to take any photos with only blue light from the back. Vocalist Emil Kyrk has an remarkable voice and his attitude in the front worked perfect to the music. It all really is a unity.

Also “The Pledge” and “Offerings” which followed are favorites from the record so it sure was a great start of the show. The latter of the two is heavy and dramatic. The Hammond sure works in favor of the sound to create a very moody atmosphere and it sounds great. “Awakenings” is a slow-moving piece of music and is more driven by an organ melody. Rockbåten is a small place but they really manage to do the band's sound justice. This dynamic piece sounded fantastic as well. It was only last song out, “Acheron” which wasn't from the latest “The Omega” album. Which I guess is natural since the last is the only featuring Emil on vocals (for sure, “Deluminati” was re-recorded and re-released as “Reluminati” with Emil but it's not really the same). But it all sounded very good and EGONAUT did an impressive show, it's just a shame more didn't come out to see them play.
