DimK: I won’t hide the fact that the first day had already taken its toll while the jetlag was shouting our name but there was a lot of ground to cover and Belgium’s EVIL INVADERS were the first to hit the stage. We found our way close to the stage while the young and definitely pumped-up band was giving 100% to get the almost noon sluggish metalheads going who already had a beer in hand. Yeah, “Alcoholic Maniac” seemed like the best way to get rid of the always present jetlag (yes, we traveled all the way from the States just for 'KIT') and let’s not forget headbanging cures everything, right? The young band’s deal is Speed Metal, so an EXCITER cover was more than welcome by everyone inside the hall and soon enough was screaming “violence and force” with clenched fists in the air. Super tight jeans and sleeveless t-shirts were the band’s looks, so the term "old-school" was on the menu and I have to admit EVIL INVADERS did a very good job to support it. Things were already looking great right from the start and judging by the billing, this would be another evening loaded with tons of fun.

EVIL INVADERS setlist:

01. “Speed Invasion”
02. “Driving Fast”
03. “Tortured By The Beast”
04. “Alcoholic Maniac”
05. “Violence & Force”
06. “Siren”
07. “Stairway To Insanity”
08. “Victim Of Sacrifice”
09. “Evil Invaders”

MariaV: I don’t think there is someone out there reading these lines who has not heard the name of ATTIC. Indeed, the German’s debut “The Invocation” with the impossible to miss MERCYFUL FATE references was a pleasant surprise, so I was pretty excited to watch them on the stage of 'Keep It True'. You see, the old-school feeling and the Satanic atmosphere blended extremely well together, even though it was right in the middle of the day. The black candles, the painted-black eyes and the leather outfits were the stage props that helped a lot into getting into the evil Kind Diamond-inspired feeling. After the spooky intro, ATTIC kicked the setlist with the awesome double-guitar driven “Funeral In The Woods”. Everything looked and sounded in place but as the show progressed, I noticed something missing and I am talking about the connection with the audience. Sure, playing this type of Metal one has to look and act evil but at the same time looking at the band members back, between the songs, was something I didn’t like (maybe having three intros in an eight track setlist was a bit too much). So, if you take out of the equation then one can say without second thoughts that ATTIC’s performance was very good and convincing. “Satan’s Bride” sounded awesome (love the main riff) while I had a great headbanging time with the double guitar harmonies of “Headless Horsemen” where the Kind Diamond references almost got flesh and bones. ’Keep It True’ is a very special festival for us so we want to do something special for you from a band that you probably know” said Meister Cagliostro before ending the set with a killer take on MERCYFUL FATE’s “Black Funeral” nailing the vocal lines. That was another great set despite the visual perspective...

ATTIC setlist:

01. “Funeral In The Woods”
02. “Join The Coven”
03. “Satan's Bride”
04. “Edlyn”
05. “The Invocation”
06. “Evil Inheritance”
07. “The Headless Horseman”
08. “Black Funeral”

DimK: It feels amazing watching bands getting back in action after a long time of silence but at the same time this can be a huge turn off in the case one’s expectations are not met. Sure, the level of success is in the eye of the beholder but I think you got my point. UK’s TORANAGA were next in line, so I was expecting some Thrash action to keep the crowd going from the quite energetic start. “Hammer To The Skull” opened their set with tight guitar action and powerful vocal by Mark Duffy. The audience responded to the opening song even though the band did not do much for the eye by being rather static. I mean everyone was pretty much holding his position leaving Mark to do some walking back and forth or waving to the audience. Other than that the TORANAGA set flew by rather fast and one could easily listen to killer “Sword Of Damocles”, the double-guitar based “Sentenced” while socializing and not paying attention to the stage. The surprise of the setlist was the brand new recording “Ultimate Act Of Betrayal” that I think sounded Thrash and quite modern. Let’s see how TORANAGA will evolve during their second era.

TORANAGA setlist:

01. “Hammer To The Skull”
02 . “Psychotic”
03. “Dealers In Death”
04. “Sword Of Damocles”
05. “Ultimate Act Of Betrayal”
06. “Sentenced”
07. “The Shrine”

MariaV: Yes, having seen before US’ MIDNIGHT, I was pretty excited watching these guys upon German soil this time. Sure, MIDNIGHT is all about evil-ness and high speed Rock ‘n’ Roll mixed beautifully with some VENOM-esque unholy touch, but having these guys in this year’s ‘KIT’ added an extra flavor. It might have been 3 o’clock in the evening with the sun shining above the picturesque Würzburg, but Athenar and his gang took over the ‘KIT’ stage with menace, meaning almost breaking the string instruments going frenzy during the sounds of the opening “Vomit Queens”. Everyone got ecstatic inside the hall and of course even more approached the stage. “Rip This Hell” and “Lust Filth And Sleaze” gave the signal for vicious headbanging from the very beginning and it was really nice watching all those metalheads pumping their fists / throwing horns in the air while a Japanese couple near where I was standing got into berserk headbanging while trying at the same time to capture the moment with their camera (I know what you’re thinking... these tech maniacs!). One of the highlights of MIDNIGHT's performance was the back-to-back hit of “Satanic Royalty” / “Black Rock ‘n’ Roll”, taking hostage every drop of energy we had left (again, the jetlag parameter). This set was one of the most aggressive ones I have ever seen (speaking mostly about the onstage happenings) and judging by the reaction of MIDNIGHT’s compatriots, BORROWED TIME (who were standing backstage), this was not only my personal impression...

MIDNIGHT setlist:

01. “Vomit Queens”
02. “Rip This Hell”
03. “Lust Filth And Sleaze”
04. “All Hail Hell”
05. “Take You To Hell”
06. “I Am Violator”
07. “You Can't Stop Steel”
08. “Endless Slut”
09. “Satanic Royalty”
10. “Black Rock ‘n’ Roll”
11. “Unholy And Rotten”

DimK: The insane set by those crazy lads of MIDNIGHT depleted all the calories we had gotten from breakfast, so it was time for refill and regroup. Upon returning inside the always hot and steamy ‘KIT’ hall, we saw the US thrashers of OCTOBER 31 running pretty much on the same high-octane fuel with MIDNIGHT. The characteristic figure of King Fowley looked absolutely pumped by the audience’s appetite to mosh and was running up and down the stage singing (or spitting the lyrics) the old-school way, sounding absolutely pissed. Brian “Hellstorm” Williams was the perfect partner in crime delivering the hard-hitting riff like there was no tomorrow and it was really impossible to resist getting involved into some hearty headbanging/moshing action. There was a party-feeling onstage and really time flew by and I think the band felt the same since King Fowley asked: “How much time we have” before hitting us with the awesome “A Million Good Byes” from the OCTOBER 31 debut that was released some thirteen years ago. The Thrash party ended with a bang that was a cover take on SAXON’s “Power And The Glory” and there were many metalheads raising their glasses high acknowledging how good OCTOBER 31 did (and SAXON is, hehehe) that night.

OCTOBER 31 setlist:

01. “Visions Of The End”
02. “The Warlock”
03. “The Chosen One”
04. “Commit To Sin”
05. “Salem's Curse”
06. “Meet Thy Maker”
07. “Rivet Rat”
08. “Powerhouse”
09. “A Million Goodbyes”
10. “Power And The Glory”
