I was just fascinated when I first looked at that 70’s look-like 12’’ Ep’s cover with the demure brunette kneeling in the middle of it, holding the trademark cross of the Swedish kings of doom Metal, CANDLEMASS. This band is one of the main reasons I’m so into this kind of Metal and I just can’t resist when a CANDLEMASS release comes to my hands. “Don’t Fear The Reaper” Ep, available in 250 copies of green vinyl and 100 of black vinyl, became such a turnaway because of its rare content and its anniversary character, having on mind that CANDLEMASS decided to release and sell it at their 25th year anniversary gigs at Debaser Medis in Stockholm and at ‘Roadburn 2011’ if there would be any left.

The far and wide die-hard fans though had a different opinion and managed to make this one sold out showing their dedication to the band, before the coming of the New Year 2011. “Don’t Fear The Reaper” Ep contains two covers, “All Along The Watchtower” by Bob Dylan and “Don’t Fear The Reaper” by BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, making us clear that even a couple of all-time classic songs can have a doom-y tincture, especially under the golden veil of Rob Lowe’s vocals. Particularly, when I was listening to “Don’t Fear The Reaper” track, I could hardly recognize Rob’s timbre, a fact that proves the quality and the flexibility of this man and how lucky CANDLEMASS are to have him in their line-up.

We hope that High Roller Records has in mind to re-release this Ep for another hundreds copies (check that HR have the great habit of repressing if there is a demand), just because the CANDLEMASS fans are jillion and I’m pretty sure that many of them have no idea of this special treat’s existence.
