Alastor - Slave To The Grave

I hadn’t the slightest idea of Sweden’s ALASTOR’s existence, but after recently bumping into one of RidingEasy Records’ press releases regarding the Greek quartet BUS THE UNKNOWN SECRETARY (aka BUS) – ok, that’s a different story – I was excited to discover the magical and mysterious Doom world of ALASTOR. And in in full disclosure, I’m so glad I did. You may already thinking “not another SABBATH-y infused band!” but let me tell you that this is not the case here – well, not exactly at least. So, fasten your seat belt and let’s dive head first into ALASTOR’s debut full length, “Slave To The Grave”. Ready?

Uriah Heep - Living The Dream

If you’d ask me, I would tell you that URIAH HEEP should definitely have been part of the original four, along with BLACK SABBATH, DEEP PURPLE and LED ZEPPELIN. They have added yet another element with their sombre melancholy and dynamics to that foundation. Their heritage holds a very consistent high standard and they’ve kept going strong over the years. Live, URIAH HEEP have always blown me away and, especially in recent years, they’ve killed all competition when it comes to vibrant live-performances. And with “Living The Dream”, they’re absolutely on top with the studio recordings as well.

Sodom - Partisan

Unbeknownst to me that SODOM had a brand new lineup, I started listening to the “Partisan” EP, being excited getting new music from this reliable Thrash band. Yeah, there is a new lineup behind the two brand new recordings (the third is a live one), and if you are of my age spectrum, then you may have started listening to SODOM during the “Persecution Mania” era, and that means having Mr. Frank Blackfire on the guitars. If this news did not temp you to headbang, then you have missed the German Thrash train all together, so you better do some homework.

Soulfly - Ritual

Soon after having started reading Max’s biography, I realized that I had completely missed the latest SOULFLY offering, titled “Ritual”. So, felling jacked up from digging into the SEPULTURA / SOULFLY history through Max’s eyes, I needed some music to get the edge off. After all, Max has been a trusted source when it comes to Thrash with tribal infusions which is focused on the groove. If you do not understand what I am talking about, then “Ritual” might be great starting point to being your trip backwards in time.
